Solar Power at the Garden

The Bartlett Park Community Garden is getting ready to move forward with a solar-powered irrigation system for the garden.  Slated to launch on Martin Luther King Day, January 19th, 2015, the project is supported in large part by the Martin Luther King Day of Service project based at St Pete College.

It all begins with installing a deep-water well.  Next we lower a high-tech pump down to the water table, where its power comes from four brand new solar panels to be mounted on the roof of our garden shed.

It should run silently and cost us nothing for the next 20-30 years!  We will be glad to move on from the gas bill and loud noise of our current generator and electric pump, though they have served us well for the last 3-4 years.

The garden is still fundraising for the cost of the equipment, so contact Andrea at Green Florida if you want to contribute, 727-643-7189.
